When a retinal tear or a small retinal detachment occurs, laser treatment may be applied to prevent further accumulation of fluid beneath the retina and minimize the risk of a vision-threatening retinal detachment. The laser is applied around the retinal defect.
Laser Retinopexy is an outpatient procedure and can take just minutes to perform, but you should allow up to 2 hours for your appointment.
Someone will be required to drive you home after the laser treatment. Generally, driving can be resumed the next day. However, if you are having vision problems, then you should wait several more days until you feel comfortable driving.
What are the risks of Laser Retinopexy? A membrane may develop on the centre of your retina (epiretinal membrane) which can distort your vision. There is a risk of bleeding of your retina.
